I didn't like the story because it doesn't tell you that the Big Bad Wolf huffed and puffed and blew the house down and that's an important part of the story. Also, it is too long
This story is a good read it is a little different than the original but still a happy ending. Thank you for being different.
This retelling had just enough little tweaks to make it seem brand new. The little pigs had names and an original home. But the story remains a classic and one that my son and I love.
I used this with ESL students and they loved it.
I wanted the original story. This is not the same and the ending is politically correct so that nothing bad happens to the wolf. Lame
This is a wonderful retelling of the classic story, with beautiful, colorful illustrations by Nicoletta Costa. While everyone may be familiar with the story, I enjoyed the addition of a "backstory" and the names of the pigs. The story is retold very well and the illustrations really add to the fun of the book. Children are sure to love this one!
Variants of this story abound!
* Pigs leave home because family has grown too big.
* One of the pigs is a girl (who builds the house of straw)
* They build separate houses because the straw and wood house are too small for them all to live in.
* The first two pigs escape to the next houses as the wolf blows down each house, and are not eaten.
* The wolf goes down the chimney and the 3 pigs in the brick house build a fire to get the wolf.
* The wolf is roasted in the chimney but not eaten.
* The pig live happily ever after in the brick house.
* Classic phrases from the story do NOT appear in this version There's no "I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blowwwwww your house in", and there's no "Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin!" which may disappoint some and please others.
* This was the first children's book I bought for and the illustrations weren't bad.
